Logo design

Basic models for logo design

  • WSU department branding

Wayne State University and its colleges, schools, divisions, and departments each have a brand-defined logo structure. These will always include the same elements that are defined in the Wayne State University Brand Guideline Manual. These logos follow the Wayne State brand guidelines and are delivered in 2 formats, horizontal and vertical (shown below). In certain instances where color may be limited, the logos also may be simpified single color versions and/or black and white. Please note: all Wayne State University colleges, schools, divisions and departments follow this brand identity. This treatment is considered the official logo for all units (schools, colleges, programs, departments, student groups, etc.). Other graphics that exist outside of the standards in this document that are used as logos are not supported by WSU Marketing and Communications.

  • WSU event and campaign graphics

These logo marks offer more flexibility (ie, they are not confined to the standard WSU logo format) While allowing for more creative liberty, these logos/marks must still comply with brand guidelines when incorporating university brand marks (ie, any time the Wayne State University logo or its elements are implemented; these standards can be reviewed on the Wayne State University Brand Guideline Manual.

  • Special program logos

Special program logos are for internally and externally offered programs/partnerships that benefit from specific branding as a foundational element of their identity. Most often, these logos are a partnership between Wayne State University and another entity. Examples are FST5, BCAP, MIDOCS. NOTE: Academic programs within WSU are not considered special programs and would fall under school/college/division/department.

NOTE: This MIDOCs logo is a partnership between several colleges and the State of Michigan. Therefore, a neutral blue color was used in an effort to ensure that this was an equal partnership and one school did not have branding opportunities over others.
